Definition of Hospitality, relationship between a guest and host. How the host treats the guest when they come to the host’s house. Every culture has a different way of welcoming and showing Hospitality to their guest. I want to talk about Indian culture, way of showing Hospitality to their guest.
In India we follow ” Atithi Devo Bhava” which means ” The guest is God”. There are number of stories we have in which the guest is shown as god and when the guest leaves they reward the people (hosts) who have shown hospitality, with blessing and good wishes to their entire family.
When a guest is to arrive at an Indian home you would hear “Namaste” which means Welcome. Even though we have several Indian languages, you will still hear Welcome in different languages. My spoken language is Tamil and we say “Namaskaram”.
