Cooking post-8 Cabbage Curry

Cabbage curry South India style



Cabbage – 1 medium size

Grated coconut – 1/4 cup

Fresh cilantro – 1/2 cup

Olive oil 3 tablespoon

Mustard seeds – 1/4 tablespoon

Dry Red chilly -3

Red chilly powder – 1/4 tablespoon

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tablespoon

Salt to taste

Take a medium size cabbage.


Cut the cabbage into small piece as shown. Put them in a bowl with water so you could clean the cabbage. After thoroughly washing the cabbage, remove all water by draining the vegetable and keeping it aside .


In a medium pan, take 3 tablespoon of olive oil and when oil heats up add mustard and dry red chilly by breaking them up and sauté them, until you hear the mustard splatter.


Once the mustard splatters add the cabbage you have cleaned and drained into the pan. The pan will sizzle as soon the cabbage hits the pan. Mix the cabbage well and close it with lid and have the stove at medium flame.


After some time of cooking, you add 1/4 tablespoon of turmeric powder and 1/4 tablespoon of red chilly powder into the vegetable and mix well.


Make sure the vegetable is cooked well and then add salt to your taste, grated coconut for seasoning and fresh cilantro on top. You could enjoy this dish with Rasam and Rice. This is a south India style cabbage curry.
