Semiya ( Vermicelli ) Payasam


Vermicelli ( Semiya) – 1 cup

Almond milk / Regular Milk – 1/2 gallon

Cashew nuts – a handful

Dry grapes- a handful

Oil/ghee as required


this is fresh cardamon, you need to grind it a powder 


Cardamom – 1/4 teaspoon

Sugar- 1 1/2 cup


In a pan add some oil/ ghee and when warmed add cashews, dry grapes and toast them well.


To step-1 add Vermicelli 1 cup and toast it well. With the same oil/ghee which you added to cashew and dry grapes.


When ingredients in step-1 and step-2 are toasted well set them aside in a bowl to cool.


In another pan add the milk to your taste. I have prepared this dish with Almond milk. You could do this with regular milk. Bring the milk to boil. Then add 1 1/2 cup of sugar and allow it to mix well. Then add the ingredients from step-3 and mix well. Add 1/4 teaspoon of powdered cardamom for flavor.


Serve hot or cold depends on what you are in a mood for. Enjoy.
